Oh the Crazy things College makes us do

    BEFORE

I’m scared. I mean, really, honestly, afraid-for-my-life scared. Just imagine, you’re shivering in the cold, snow falling so gently, you really begin to question if what you’re about to do is a dream. You probably aren’t wearing that much, despite the below freezing temperatures of the Michigan air, and you’re standing in line, waiting for your own doom.

You signed up for this, and you’ve done this before, and you know what’s going to happen. But knowing makes it all the worse. You know the chills that will wrack your body afterwards, the numbing feeling of your skin taking over every other sense in your body. Your mind screams ‘Why’ as you scramble back to your dorm in freezing agony. It is all because of one thing.

I’m not kidding when I tell you this, but, my school has an activity where we literally jump into a frozen pond. Doesn’t make much sense, does it? Nope.
But this is college, YOLO, right? (I don’t actually believe in YOLO xD btw)

Funny thing is, yeah, I’ve done this before. I actually did this event before I even signed up for this college. You know why? Because I live for the moment. When I went to visit this college one Friday afternoon in the middle of February, and my college guide looks me in the face, saying ‘want to go jump in a frozen pond with a bunch of college freaks with me?’, I can honestly say I didn’t have much hesitation when I said ‘yes’. I know, crazy, right? I already know, so you don’t have to tell me.

So, now, it’s been a year since I did it last, and honestly, I’m scared out of my wits about what’s going to happen. I KNOW what this will feel like, so honestly, I’m not as willing as last year.

‘Well, if you’re so scared, why don’t you just skip it this year?’ you may be asking, and my answer to that question is: I CAN’T.

And why is that you ask? Well, if you must know, it’s my recklessness that once again caught me. You see, during orientation, when we were meeting our brand new president, when he asked us ‘anyone willing to jump in the pond with me?’, my hand shoots up. I figured, since I’d done it before, I could do it again. It was easy to say it then because February had seemed so far away last summer…

Now, today’s the day… and in 2 hours and 30 minutes, I’ll be jumping in a pond with the president… and I’ll finish this blog when I return… If I do return…

AFTER

Honestly, that wasn’t as bad as I thought it would be. Though my head’s still freezing even 2 and a half hours afterwards, but that’s because my hair never dries. xD

Overall, the pond was FREEZING. But getting into a warm shower (which I don’t recommend too much, but it eventually worked), helped get me back to normal. It was over in a matter of a half an hour really. :D So I don’t regret it. And last year, the towel we received for the experience was scratchy, and this year they weren’t! So it made it worth it in the end.

So lesson? Don’t make a mountain out of a molehill. Though if I get sick from this experience, then… beware of frozen ponds. They’re not good for you.

As if I need to tell you that though. xD

    See you next week~
